5 Mistakes To Avoid When Planning Your First Trip

Planning a trip can be very exciting but its easy to get caught up in the details. Here are five simple mistakes not to make when planning your first trip.

1. Not Checking & Tracking Airfare Prices. When possible, always check airfare prices months in advanced. This could potentially save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars. While being spontaneous is a thing of beauty, you may not see the best deals for most itineraries.

2. Forgetting Documentation. This is especially important when traveling internationally. You don’t want to be in the security line at the airport and realize you left your passport at home.

3. Not Paying Attention to the Weather. Before you even book your flight, you should be researching the weather patterns and history report. For example, you don’t want any surprises, like arriving in Costa Rica in the middle of monsoon season. Not fun.

4. Packing Incorrectly or Not Packing the Right Things. Packing seems pretty self-explanatory, right? Well, it is and it isn’t. Packing the right things and not forgetting anything could go totally sideways. It’s important to be prepared for various weather conditions, excursions and temperature climates. Items that people tend to forget often are: cameras, closed toed shoes for adventures like hiking or horseback riding, a toothbrush and sunscreen.

5. Overplanning. It’s easy to get excited and overbook excursions in a beautiful new place. However, your body and mind need time to adapt to your new surroundings. Jet lag could kill your plans for the first day or even second day, depending on how long of a flight you had. It’s just as important to plan on downtime, as well as fun time.
